Operational Research Society
We engaged Hall Associates to conduct some research to help us understand how our existing and lapsed members felt about the current membership experience. The results of the research were used by Hall Associates to propose options to improve membership retention.
Hall Associates ensured they fully understood our needs so that their recommendations took into consideration resource availability and were prioritised.
We are now implementing two out of the five proposals which Hall Associates are continuing to support us with. They have a wealth of knowledge about the membership sector and this has been valuable to us in deciding next steps. We would not hesitate to engage Hall Associates in the future to help with other membership initiatives.
Louise Allison, Strategic Projects Manager ORSOC
National Association of Special Educational Needs (nasen)
Hall associates helped us to conduct a thorough review of our membership strategy, in a professional, courteous and committed manner. They provided a series of comprehensive reports regarding our structure which helped us redefine our operations to improve both our productivity and retention. We were delighted with the outcomes of our partnership and continue to implement their recommendations today. John in particular was a source of great insight and we thank him and the rest of the team for their collective expertise and sincere approach.
Sam Ward, Membership Co-ordinator, nasen
Design and Technology Association (D&TA)
Hall Associates assisted the D&T Association by running a lapsed members campaign and providing a report on the renewal process. We were pleased with the results and report which helped us move forwards in our membership planning.
Willy Adam, Membership and Services, D&TA
National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE)
Hall Associates provide a professional service for professional people. I particularly like their flexibility, in that they tailor their work to the exact requirements and budget of their clients.
Ian McNeilly, (Former) CEO, National Association for the Teaching of English
We have worked hard on this with Hall Associates over the years and now it's more about refining what we do...
Sarah Beacock, Professional Affairs Director, Energy Institute
Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (ITMA)
Hall Associates showed an experience and expertise of membership organisations that enabled them to bring some fresh ideas into how ITMA thinks about its membership. They were able to quickly recognise the differences that exist within our specialist sector in the legal fraternity in contrast to other sectors that they have worked with and by doing so they were able to make reasoned suggestions for change along with proposals for growth and retention. All of which was conducted in a positive and friendly manner and within agreed costs and time-scales set.
Keven Bader, Chief Executive, Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys
International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL)
We were pleased with the project outcome which provided us with valuable feedback on our members opinions globally. Hall Associates were quick to identify and understand our aims and their ability to analyse and interpret the findings across geographic boundaries was particularly useful. We found them particulary responsive and highly efficient throughout the whole process.
Claire Broughton, Executive Director, INSOL
Institute of Clinical Research (ICR)
Hall Associates worked with us on a year-long membership recruitment & retention project. The consultants are equally comfortable working at a very detailed level on refining processes, and advising at a more strategic level. The project involved talking directly to our members, which meant they had to understand our organisation quickly, and be utterly trustworthy. As a result, we understand our member needs and drivers more, and are changing the way we communicate with them accordingly. I wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.
Christine Bygate, (Former) Marketing & Communications Manager, ICR
International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM)
Hall Associates have completed three membership surveys for IIRSM since 2006. We have found their work to be comprehensive, insightful and enormously useful to us as one of the building blocks for our membership strategy.
They are very customer orientated, avoid jargon and produce work of a very high standard. I really cannot praise them enough and we consider them partners rather than suppliers. We have outsourced some of our retention work to them and this has proved a very cost effective solution for us.
Brian Nimick, (Former) CEO, International Institute of Risk and Safety Management
BCS The Chartered Institute for IT
BCS has had a long standing and productive relationship with Hall Associates in support of membership retention, going back to 2005. Our work with Hall Associates has not only met the primary aim of renewing memberships, but has also proved advantageous by way of the additional specialist experience, advice and awareness they bring to this aspect of our work. Their expertise in membership retention has enabled BCS to develop better communication and benefits for its members.
Paul Hurt, (Former) Membership Project Manager, BCS The Chartered Institute for IT
British Psychological Society (BPS)
The value of an external consultancy should be that they have specialist skills and expertise, broad knowledge of the sector and therefore experience of what works and what doesn’t. I talked to several consultancies with a track record in membership development and retention. Hall Associates had a good reputation with some strong testimonials. What I particularly liked was their working style. I wanted a firm that would work alongside my staff, developing our skills as well as pointing to problems and advising on solutions.
Tim Cornford, (Former) CEO, British Psychological Society
Institute of Physics (IOP)
During the time we have worked with HAE, they have helped us to improve our processes, increase retention levels and identify growth opportunities amongst new member populations. They were quick to absorb our culture and changed the way in which we think about engagement with our members. They possess the skills to bring about rapid process improvement whilst at the same time carrying in-house staff with them. We enjoy our working relationship with the Hall Associates team.
John Brindley, Membership & e-Services Director, Institute of Physics
Institution of Incorporated Engineers (now IET)
Our experience with Hall Associates has been most positive and beneficial throughout. They have a highly professional approach, develop sound, practicable proposals and follow them through. Importantly, they listen well and absorb the client organisation's culture so as to gain a thorough understanding of it's operating environment.
Peter Wason, (Former) CEO, Institution of Incorporated Engineers
Business Continuity Institute (BCI)
We found Hall Associates provided us with motivation, encouragement and extra hands to tackle those tasks that all membership organisations know they need to undertake (but invariably put off often due to time pressures) including direct member contact, review of communications, tighter management processes and greater analysis and understanding of members. All Hall Associate team members are very easy to work with and it makes a great deal of sense to get a fresh perspective from experienced practitioners.
Lorraine Darke, Membership Services Director, Business Continuity Institute
Royal Museums Greenwich
Hall Associates helped us to define a new and more effective approach to engaging with our members. We have implemented their recommendations and now have processes in place which enable us to interact more closely with members of the Royal Museums Greenwich. Their knowledge and practical experience of how to bring about improvements in membership awareness, renewal, and retention have been invaluable.
Chris Hill, Royal Museums Greenwich
Royal British Legion
Hall Associates worked with The Royal British Legion in developing future plans for our membership; their command of the critical issues and their empathy with the subject were impressive and added value to our work.
Bob Gamble OBE, Assistant Director of Engagement, Royal British Legion
Royal Naval Association
The Royal Naval Association engaged Hall Associates in 2014 to provide expert direction and guidance on future membership issues and understanding local branch activities in order to help support the recruitment and retention of members. Hall Associates developed a highly effective and valid research methodology in order to capture individual and group attitudes and issues. The results of the research phase were then most successfully melded with their wide experience with membership organisations to develop a challenging and truthful picture of the current state of recruiting and retention. Filled with sharp ideas using many tools and media that we currently do not exploit, the report was strong enough to act as the steel spine of our 5-year strategy, recently approved by the National Council.
Honest and practical, Hall Associates are not afraid to reveal uncomfortable truth, where necessary, and to come up with realistic and flexible solutions to the issues faced. A pleasure to deal with, Hall Associates are a highly professional and effective partner and I am extremely grateful for the evidenced based ideas that have set us on the right track. Highly recommended.
Captain Paul Quinn OBE, General Secretary, Royal Naval Association
Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Association
The REME Association has worked with Hall Associates over the past year to determine and begin to deliver a viable future role and organisation for the Association. The support provided by Hall Associates has exceeded our expectations. Their uniquely wide and detailed experience of working with ‘membership organisations’ enabled them to provide us with a clear picture of the issues we faced and to provide objective, fact-based, insights. They worked in a close, positive, partnership with us to set out a realistic and practical way forward; they also helped enormously with the ‘hearts and minds’ campaign, making the case for change convincingly and with commendable persistence. Their team is excellent - they are good people to have alongside. To be frank, we tried to address the issues on our own and we failed; we still have a great deal to do but we would not have made it thus far without the assistance of Hall Associates.
Lieutenant General AC Figgures CB CBE, Master General REME
